Naomi Klein’s argument is that to stop climate change, we fundamentally need a battle of worldviews. We need to change values are going to govern our. She believes that in responding to climate change, we can fix things that are wrong in our economy, by addressing the jobs crisis, fixing our ailing infrastructure and reinvent it, and closing the inequality gap. We have to do this collectively and politics needs to be involved. She also believes that the most important thing is not to change those climate change deniers, but those who know that climate change is happening but refuse to take action.
The cause of unsustainability is the consumption of non-renewable resources and pollution. Non-renewable resources are defined as resources that are used faster than it is produced, thus at some point, we will run out of these resources. Pollution of air will cause diseases and acid rain. Pollution of water will reduce clean water available for us to use. If the above mentioned is not stopped, we will run out of resources that support our lives. These need to be stopped immediately. I agree with Klein’s argument that taking baby steps will not address the problem properly fundamental changes needs to be taken. We cannot count on technology to solve all our problems; we need to assume that there will be no silver bullet when we are taking action on sustainability. We need to change our lifestyles, and we need to press hard enough for legislations to take place.
